About the Measuring Principle of Turbidimeter

Turbidity is the performance of suspended matter in water to hinder the degree of light passing through. That is, part of the light passing through the water sample is absorbed or scattered, rather than directly transmitted, and the turbidity indicates the optical properties of the water sample. Suspended and colloidal substances such as soil, dust, fine organic matter, inorganic matter, and planktonic matter in water can make the water turbid and present a certain turbidity. Usually, the higher the turbidity, the more turbid the solution. Turbidity can represent the clarity of water and the concentration of suspended solids in water, which is one of the important evaluation indicators of water quality. The turbidimeter is used to measure the scattering degree of light produced by insoluble particulate matter suspended in water or transparent liquid, and can quantitatively characterize the content of these suspended particulate matter. It can be widely used in turbidity measurement in pure water plants, tap water plants, beverage plants, wine making industries and other departments. Measuring principle: After the infrared light sent by the emitter on the sensor is absorbed, reflected and scattered by the measured object during transmission, part of the transmitted light can be irradiated on the detector in the direction of 180°, and part of the scattered light can be irradiated to the detector at 90° direction detector. The light intensity received by the 180° and 90° direction detector has a certain relationship with the turbidity of the measured sewage, so the turbidity of the water quality can be calculated by measuring the intensity of transmitted light or scattered light.
