ORP is the abbreviation of Oxidation-Reduction Potential in English, which represents the oxidation-reduction potential of the solution. The ORP value is a measure of the oxidation-reduction capacity of an aqueous solution, and its unit is mV. The ORP meter is a special instrument for testing the oxidation-reduction potential of a solution, which consists of an ORP composite electrode and a mV meter. The ORP electrode is an electrode that can absorb or release electrons on the surface of its sensitive layer. The sensitive layer is an inert metal, usually made of platinum and gold. The reference electrode is the same silver/silver chloride electrode as the pH electrode. It is the difference between the oxidation-reduction potential of the indicator electrode and the oxidation-reduction potential of the comparison electrode in the liquid, and can give a comprehensive indicator of the oxidation-reduction state of the entire system. A low ORP value indicates that the waste water treatment system has a high content of reducing substances or organic pollutants, a low concentration of dissolved oxygen, and a reducing environment is dominant. If the ORP value is high, it means that the concentration of organic pollutants in the wastewater is low, the concentration of dissolved oxygen or oxidizing substances is high, and the oxidizing environment is dominant. Traditional redox water treatment technology has shortcomings such as insufficient control conditions, waste of chemicals, and unfriendly environment. However, with the help of ORP measuring instruments, the use of ORP electrical signals as detection and control means can greatly improve the accurate control level of redox water treatment technology, thereby improving the treatment effect. The detection principle is similar to pH value. Many online pH detection instruments have a dual-channel detection method, including an ORP detection channel. In short, ORP is an important direction for the development of automatic control technology and anaerobic precision control of sewage treatment plants. It is of great significance to save energy, control the metabolic pathway of anaerobic microorganisms, and improve the treatment effect.
