What are the items of tap water quality testing

by:BOQU     2023-04-06
The Hygienic Standards for Drinking Water (GB 5749-2006) covers 106 water quality indicators, including 20 sensory properties and general physical and chemical indicators, 21 inorganic toxicological indicators, 53 organic toxicological indicators, and 4 disinfectant indicators. There are 6 microbial indicators and 2 radioactive indicators. In the informative appendix, 28 water quality reference indexes and limit values are listed, including 2 microbial indexes, 2 inorganic matter indexes, and 24 organic matter indexes. When these indexes are contained in drinking water, the limit values can be used for evaluation. And the water quality indicators are divided into conventional indicators and unconventional indicators, which improves the operability of water quality monitoring. It is somewhat unrealistic to conduct all tests, and some parameters must use professional water quality testing instruments. Therefore, we only need to select some of the common drinking water parameters: residual chlorine, total dissolved solids, pesticide residues and PH concentration. (1) Residual chlorine (residual chlorine limit in 'Drinking Water Hygienic Standards' GB5749-2006: contact time with water ≥ 30min, limit in factory water 4mg/L; residual water in factory ≥ 0.3mg/L; pipe network End water balance ≥ 0.05mg/L;). (2) Sensory indicators of water, such as chromaticity, turbidity, visible matter, smell and taste (the turbidity limit in 'Drinking Water Sanitation Standard' GB5749-2006: 1NTU). (3) Conductivity (total dissolved solids, abbreviated as T.D.S) The conductivity of water is the reciprocal of the resistance of water, and it is usually used to represent the purity of water. The national standard GB5749-2006 'Drinking Water Hygienic Standards' requires a limited amount of total dissolved solids (TDS) in drinking tap water: total dissolved solids ≤ 1000 mg/L, which is obviously far from the international standard. With the development of industry, the types and quantities of pollutants in water have increased, and this value may not meet the drinking standards for human beings. When the TDS value exceeds 200, it is industrial water standard, and if it is above 300, it is water polluted by industry. What is the TDS value of various waters? The TDS value of tap water in different regions is different, and the northern region is higher. Generally, the TDS value of water from a waterworks is around 180-260. If it is a deep well, the groundwater should be higher, around 300. Some places are located in industrial areas, and the groundwater may be even higher after being polluted. Generally, the water normally treated by reverse osmosis (RO) technology is within 50%, which is suitable for human drinking. (4) pH value: 'Drinking Water Hygienic Standards' stipulates that the pH value of tap water is between 6.5 and 8.5. Water that is too acidic or alkaline is not good for the human body, so the detection of pH value is also very important.
