Why are we all using turbidimeters to test turbidity?

With the improvement of sanitary standards for drinking water, the monitoring items for drinking water have also increased a lot. Turbidity is a basic monitoring item in the monitoring tasks of drinking water, so the monitoring equipment of turbidity meter is needed. Let's learn about the relevant knowledge of turbidity measurement. Turbidity Turbidity refers to the degree of resistance of the solution to the passage of light, which includes the scattering of light by suspended matter and the absorption of light by solute molecules. The turbidity of water is not only related to the content of suspended substances in the water, but also related to their size, shape and refractive index. Suspended solids and colloids such as soil, silt, fine organic matter, inorganic matter, and plankton in the water can make the water turbid and present a certain turbidity. According to the water quality analysis, the turbidity formed by 1 mg SiO2 in 1L water is one Standard turbidity unit, referred to as 1 degree. Generally, the higher the turbidity, the cloudier the solution. Why measure turbidity Turbidity is usually suitable for water quality determination of natural water, drinking water and some industrial water. The water sample for turbidity measurement should be tested as soon as possible, or refrigerated at 4°C, and tested within 24 hours. Before the measurement, the water sample should be shaken vigorously and returned to room temperature. Particulate matter protects microorganisms and stimulates bacterial growth during disinfection of drinking water. In all cases when the water is being disinfected, the turbidity is low so that it can be effectively disinfected. The effect of turbidity on disinfection effectiveness is significant. Turbidity is also an important operational control parameter in the drinking water purification process, which can indicate quality problems in the process of treatment, especially in the process of coagulation, sedimentation, filtration and disinfection. There is no direct health data on turbidity, however ideally turbidity should be as low as possible and for effective disinfection the median turbidity should be below 0.1 NTU. Turbidity Meter Turbidimeter, also known as turbidity meter, can be used for testing the turbidity of water samples in water plants, power plants, industrial and mining enterprises, laboratories and field sites. This instrument is often used as the necessary inspection equipment for drinking water plants to apply for QS certification. The working principle of the turbidity meter The turbidimeter emits light, makes it pass through a section of the sample, and detects how much light is scattered by the particles in the water from a direction 90° to the incident light. This scattered light measurement method is called scattering method. Any true turbidity is measured in this way. The turbidity meter is suitable for both field and laboratory measurements, as well as continuous monitoring around the clock. Turbidimeters can be set up to sound an alarm when measured turbidity values exceed safety standards.
