Can the water quality nitrite meter be used in aquaculture?

Can the water quality nitrite meter be used in aquaculture? The answer is of course yes. In recent years, aquaculture has gradually developed towards intensive and high-density aquaculture. However, with the development of intensive and high-density aquaculture, the nitrite content exceeds the standard, which has become a difficult problem commonly encountered by farmers in the process of aquaculture. Therefore, the use of water quality nitrite analyzers in aquaculture has become the choice of many farmers.

The use of a water quality nitrite analyzer can timely understand the nitrite content in the aquaculture water because if the nitrite exceeds the standard for a long time, the oxygen-carrying capacity of the blood of aquaculture aquatic products will be seriously reduced, which will have a great impact on the aquaculture animals. Mild cases will reduce the growth rate of aquaculture aquatic products, and severe cases will lead to the death of aquaculture aquatic products poisoning. Therefore, farmers must pay close attention to the problem of excessive nitrite.

Reasons for excessive nitrite:

In aquaculture water, nitrite is actually an intermediate product of the nitrogen cycle in the water body. During the breeding process, especially in the middle and late stages of breeding, with the increase of the feeding amount, a large amount of residual feed, nitrogenous fertilizers and excrement of farmed animals will accumulate at the bottom of the pond. The ammonia nitrogen is further converted into nitrite.

1. The residual bait and feces are decomposed to produce organic nitrogen, which can be converted into ammonium nitrogen by nitridation, and then converted into nitrite through nitrosation to increase the content of nitrite;

2. The amount of dissolved oxygen in the bottom layer is insufficient;

3. High pH: The optimum pH for nitrifying bacteria is 8.5, that is to say, when the bottom pH reaches 8.5, it is most favorable for the conversion of nitrite to nitrate. If the pH is too high, it will promote nitrosation, resulting in an increase in nitrite;

4. The growth of microorganisms requires carbon and nitrogen sources, so the carbon-nitrogen ratio of the water also seriously affects the nitrite content. The relative shortage of carbon source will lead to more accumulation of nitrate (nitrogen source), which will promote the progress of denitrification, which will lead to the increase of nitrite.
