The effect of the oxygen used. Analysis: Used as a carrier gas to bring water samples into the instrument; used as a supporting gas to change C in C-containing compounds into CO2. 3. The advantages of TOC method over COD method when detecting the content of organic matter in water. Analysis: ①Compared with the COD titration and back titration operations, the TOC method has a high degree of automation, simple operation, fast analysis speed, and the result can be obtained in only 3 minutes; ②TOC measures the water pollution by measuring the content of C. The result directly refers to the pollution degree of organic matter, while COD measures the pollution of the water body by measuring the content of reducing substances in the water body. It is impossible to determine whether it is an organic reducing substance or an inorganic reducing substance. Therefore, TOC has less interference than COD and is more accurate. High; ③TOC can detect almost all organic substances, the oxidation rate is about 100%, the measurement accuracy is high, and the instrument is closed for measurement, the measurement state is basically not artificially changed, and the accidental error of the measurement result is small; while the COD measurement requires manual operation, The factors causing accidental errors increase, and the reliability of the measurement results decreases. 4. Determination of the oxygen consumption per unit volume of seawater, the reason for choosing potassium permanganate. Analysis: The salt content of seawater is high, and the content of organic matter in the water is relatively high. Although the TOC-V instrument has high precision, it also has strict requirements on the measurement conditions. Using the TOC-V instrument to measure seawater may damage the internal structure of the instrument (such as salt attached to the inner wall of the combustion tube, etc.). At the same time, due to the large content of impurities in seawater, even if the COD method with low precision is used for measurement, the relative error will not be large, so the potassium permanganate method is selected for measurement.
