Difference Between Online Turbidity Meter and Haze Meter

The online turbidity meter is often used to measure the turbidity of the backwash water of the filter tank in the waterworks, the measurement of the turbidity of the raw water and the effluent of the sedimentation tank; the measurement of the water quality of the industrial production process and the circulating cooling water.

The application range of the online turbidity meter and the haze meter are different. The haze meter mainly measures the ratio of the scattered light flux and the transmitted light flux when the parallel light deviates from the incident direction when the light passes through the medium; while the online turbidity meter measures the main It is the degree of turbidity of the water, which is the turbidity caused by the trace amount of insoluble suspended substances and colloidal substances in the water.

There is also a big difference in the application, working principle and price of online turbidity meter and haze meter. Let's introduce them one by one.

Different application industries:

The main application industries of haze meter are plastics, glass, film, display processing, packaging industry, liquid medicine analysis and other industries;

The main application industries of turbidimeters are water plants, power plants, industrial and mining enterprises, which mainly involve laboratory analysis and testing related to water quality and environmental protection. Most water plants have turbidimeters.

Different measurement principles:

1. Working principle of haze meter

Haze expresses the degree of blurring of transparent samples. The greater the haze, the more blurred the object is when seen through the material, and vice versa. Transmittance is a parameter that expresses the ability of a material to pass light. Transmittance is the ratio of transmitted light (that is, all the red part of the integrating sphere in Figure 1) to the incident light (that is, all the blue light before passing through the sample); haze is the wide-angle scattered light (in the integrating sphere > ± The scattered light at 2.5° angle) is higher than the transmitted light, that is, all the green parts in the integrating sphere in Figure 2 are higher than all the red parts in the integrating sphere in Figure 1 above.

2. Working principle of turbidimeter

The turbidimeter uses the 90° scattered light principle. When the parallel light beam from the light source passes through the solution, part of it is absorbed and scattered, and the other part is transmitted through the solution. The scattered light intensity in the direction of 90° to the incident light conforms to the Relais formula:

Isu003d((KNV2)/λ)×I0

Where: I0: incident light intensity, Is: scattered light intensity, N: the number of particles per unit solution, V: particle volume, λ: incident light wavelength, K: coefficient

Under the condition of constant incident light, in a certain turbidity range, the intensity of scattered light is proportional to the turbidity of the solution. The above formula can be expressed as Is/I0u003dK′N (K′ is a constant)

According to this formula, the turbidity of a water sample can be measured by measuring the scattered light intensity of particles in the water sample.

The composition of the internal optical system is different:

The optical system of the turbidimeter consists of a tungsten lamp, a scattered light 90° detector, and a transmitted light detector;

The haze meter consists of a 154mm integrating sphere, a concave grating, a 256-pixel CMOS detector, and a 360~780nm combined LED light source.

Market sale price is different:

The price of haze meter and turbidity meter varies greatly. The price of haze meter is usually tens of thousands of yuan, while the price of turbidity meter is between several hundred to several thousand yuan. From this, it can also be seen that there is a gap between the requirements and composition of the internal structure and optical components between the haze meter and the turbidity meter.

Different appearance and function:

The appearance of the haze meter looks relatively large, and it also has a large color screen. The function of the haze meter can achieve various optical indicators (haze, transmittance, chromaticity, color difference, yellowness, etc.) according to industry standards. Whiteness, Cobalt-Platinum Index, Gardner Index, etc.) accurate test.

The appearance of turbidimeters is usually relatively small, and the functions that can be detected are relatively small.

In general, the difference between a haze meter and a turbidity meter is quite large, and the application scenarios are also different. The correlation is that after the light enters the medium, the value of the scattered light flux is measured.
