Mekong River Water Quality Monitoring in Thailand

The Mekong River originates from the northeastern slope of Tanggula Mountain in China. It is called Lancang Jiang or Lan-ts'ang Chiang in China. The river that flows into the Indo-China Peninsula is called the Mekong River. With a total length of 4,909 kilometers, the Mekong River is the most important transnational water system in Asia and the seventh largest river in the world. The main source is Zhaqu, originating from Zaduo County, Yushu Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Qinghai Province, China. Flowing through China, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam, it flows into the South China Sea in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The basin is a member of the Mekong River Commission except China and Myanmar.
